Abstract

Due to the impracticality of optimal highway cruising speed for fuel economy, based on the speed versus miles per gallon curve and data, an operations research model is established to find the satisfactory highway cruising speed for private cars. The model can be successfully solved theoretically to obtain the satisfactory speed that is an optimum balance between fuel economy and highway speed limit.
